Hand & Upper Extremity Therapy

“Hand Therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper quarter of the human body. Hand therapy is a merging of occupational therapy and physical therapy theory and practice that combines comprehensive knowledge of the upper quarter, body function, and activity. Using specialized skills in assessment and treatment, hand therapists promote the goals of prevention of dysfunction, restoration of function, and/or reversal of the progression of pathology in order to enhance participation in life situations for individuals with upper quarter disease or injury.”

Hand to Shoulder Rehabilitation

Hand therapy is the discipline that addresses injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) are either occupational or physical therapists who have specialized training in treating upper extremity conditions through advanced study.  Our hand therapists work closely with physicians and clients to provide a continuum of care. Treatment often begins within days of the injury or surgery and continues until the client has returned to work and/or a productive lifestyle.

Following a thorough evaluation, an individualized treatment plan will be developed for each client and may include:

  • Wound care
  • Range of motion and strengthening exercises
  • Control of swelling
  • Moist heat and cold therapy

Our sport specific exercises and rehabilitation programs are not just for the young athlete. We treat active people in the northwest that enjoy running, cycling, triathlons, skiing/snowboarding, hiking, golfing, or any activity the region has to offer. Let us help you get back to an active lifestyle and reach your own personal goals.

What is Physical Therapy?

A Physical Therapist understands the movement of the human body. A Physical Therapist treats patients to reduce pain, improve or restore mobility, and ultimately improve function. Our therapist team will address each patient and their goals, creating treament plans to compliment healthcare and post-op rehibilitation needs. Physical Therapist will help patients return to routine day-to-day functions while educating patients on how to avoid re-injury.

Physical Therapists use techniques individualized for each patients needs.

  • Educate patients about their condition
  • Manual therapy to improve proper range of motion
  • Exercises to strengthen muscles, balance and endurance, as well as stretching to reduce stress on joints and improve flexibility
  • Home exercise program for self-care
  • Modalities: ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat/ice, and traction
  • Ergonomics and postual re-education
